2012 was definitely a great year for PC Games.
From action shooters to in-depth MMOs, today’s PC gamers are blessed with even better graphics, better plotlines and even better soundtracks.
However, if you want to run these games to the best of your PC’s ability, you need to ensure it’s operating at full capacity, and that’s where a good PC tune up can come in.
With that in mind, here’s a quick rundown of the best new PC games of 2012 and some of their system specifications. Get your PC running as fast as possible and you’re half-way there!
#1 – Skyrim
The fifth game in the Elder Scrolls series, Skyrim is set in the mythical continent of Tamriel. An open world role playing game developed by Bethseda, Skyrim lets you battle dragons, hordes of monsters, animals and humans as you journey on your quest to defeat uber-dragon Alduin.
Within just 1 week of its release, Skyrim shipped over 7 million copies, becoming one of the most popular games of 2012 for PC gamers.
However, such a great game, with its amazing world is a drain on your PC’s specs. It’s recommended you have at least 4GB of RAM, a video card with 1GB of RAM (such as Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 260 or ATI Radeon 4890) and 6GB of free hard disk space.
But it’s worth it.
#2 – World of Warcraft – Mists of Pandaria
Released in fall 2012, the new World of Warcraft expansion is another MMO which topped the sales charts. The game is set on the magical continent called Pandaria, where mythical creatures and new races live – and fight. The new expansion lets players explore this new realm, quest together and raid together – while aiming to reach the new level cap of 90.
The minimum specs your PC needs for this new add-on though consist of 25GB of free hard disk space, a video card of 256MB and 2GB or more of RAM. Graphics aren’t Skyrim heavy, but you’ll need broadband to play!
#3 – Mass Effect 3
Yet another Role Playing Game (RPG), Mass Effect 3 is the third and final instalment of the trilogy.
Developed by Bioware, Mass Effect 3 follows Commander Shepherd as he struggles to save the galaxy from certain destruction from the Reapers. You’ll assemble your crew, pilot your ship and even play with people online to achieve certain tasks.
If you want to run this bad boy to the best of its abilities on your PC, you will need at least a 512MB graphics card – but we recommend a 1GB one and a processor of 2.4 GHz or more. You’ll need at least 2GB of RAM and 2.5GB of free disk space.
#4 – Max Payne 3
The first shooter on our list, Max Payne 3 was released to much hype – coming as it did from those Rockstar boys who developed Grand Theft Auto.
Max Payne 3 is just as action-packed as Max Payne 1 and 2 – but the game gives a different feel. The main story takes place in Brazil – Max is no longer a cop, he’s a bodyguard of some high-ranking bigwigs and still as addicted to painkillers as ever. Follow him on his blood-soaked quest for revenge, through dingy alleys and drug-addled bars.
To get the most out of this game, your PC will need to have at least 2.4Ghz of processing power, 3GB of RAM, 35GB of hard disk space and a video card of 512GB or more.
It’s “Bullet-time” brilliant.
#5 – Hitman: Absolution
Giving Max Payne a run for his money in the blood stakes is Agent 47, otherwise known as “Hitman”.
Absolution is the fifth instalment in the series, and takes him on perhaps his most dangerous mission to date. It gives us a greater feel for what goes on in his mind – he’s on the run from killers. You will have to use all your cunning to sneak through eerie libraries, dirty city streets and depression police stations and choke, stab and slaughter your way to safety.
However, if you want to slash and slice your way through Chicago, your PC is going to need a 2.6Ghz processor, 2GB of RAM, a 1GB video card and 10GB of free disk space.
It’s a heavy beast, but well worth it.
So there you have it, five of the best new games of 2012. If you want to play them, make sure your PC is running as effectively as possible – you could even try getting a free antivirus download just in case.
